What-a-Great-Website Wednesday! Week 7 (A little late…)
Happy Thursday! Sorry this is a little late, folks! Better late than never, right?
As I mentioned in a previous post, we have a big cherry tree in our backyard, and we picked some on Memorial Day. After word got around, my brother, and my cousin and his family decided to come pick cherries this past Sunday. We set out with a step stool, a pair of loppers, a boat hook, and a 5-gallon bucket. After a few hours’ time, we’d nearly filled the bucket, which ended up weighing about 38 pounds.
We’ve already made 2 pies and some muffins, and there are still a ton left. I’ll be pitting and baking most of the day today. We are so lucky to be able to have the cherry tree right in our own backyard. We also have wineberries within walking distance of our house.
This week’s website, PickYourOwn.org, provides information about where to pick your own fruits and vegetables. You can find “pick-your-own farms” by choosing your state or country; there are picking tips, such as when to go, and what to bring; and even information about canning the fruits and vegetables you pick.
If you’re able to go to a farm to pick your own fruits and vegetables, I highly recommend it. It’s a great way to spend time with family and friends, and who doesn’t love eating fresh produce!
“Then God said, ‘Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.’ And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.” – Genesis 1:11-12
“Then God said, ‘I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.'” – Genesis 1:19
